DAVES’ DEPORTED TO DEVON!

Yes that’s right not one but TWO BWFC Daves’ have been deported to Devon!

During the most recent lockdown our very own David Castle (Over 50’s BWFC Manager, and WFA England 50+ Assistant Manager) relocated in semi-retirement to Devon with partner Jan. Dave (Cackle) Castle had been with Beachcroft’s walking football club from just after it was formed in 2014. He represented Birmingham WFC on 207 occasions between 2015 and 2019 for the over 50’s

Scoring 19 goals (not bad for a defender) and assisted on countless others. Dave became part of the furniture at both Beechcroft and Solihull and donated and volunteered hours into the club for which we are profoundly grateful. We wish both him and Jan all the best for their more relaxing future.

Following the 58’s game against Wolverhampton last week, a presentation was made to Dave Whatmore, another quality BWFC player who we are sadly losing to the draws of Devon. Since 2016 in his time at BWFC, he played in total 149 competitive games, scored 83 goals, spread over the + 58’s, +63’s, +65’s and the County league as well as representing our club in tournaments in Paris and the Algarve. In commemoration of his time both in practice games and for the representative teams at the club, players and several other clubs contributed to a collection and a wonderful, framed print of Dave in action was handed to him with tributes from Steve White and Roy Williams.

Dave said, “For me walking football became addictive. Then I got the opportunity to play competitively and that has been the icing on the cake!

I have made dozens of great friends, not only at BWFC but also in the other league teams.

Lockdown made us all so appreciative of what we had had and what we were missing!”

We all wish him every happiness and success on the South Devon coast.
